남이 장군 – 역사적 인물과 남이섬의 이름
Nami Island is a Korean tourist destination famous for its picturesque landscapes and as a film set in many popular k-dramas like Winter Sonata (2002) and My Love from the Star (2013). However, guidebooks for foreign tourists barely explain how the island got its name, which is a pity because the life story of general Nami, historical figure from Joseon Dynasty, deserves to be known to a bigger audience.
남이섬은 그림 같은 풍경과 겨울연가(2002년)와 별에서 온 그대(2013년)와 같은 많은 인기 k드라마를 배경으로 한 영화로 유명한 한국의 관광지입니다. 하지만, 외국인 관광객들을 위한 안내 책자들은 어떻게 그 섬의 이름을 갖게 되었는지 거의 설명하지 못하는데, 이것은 조선 시대의 역사적 인물인 남이 장군의 일대기가 더 많은 청중들에게 알려질 만하기 때문에 유감스러운 일입니다.
Nami (1441 or 1443 - 1468) was a great commander from the Uiryeong Nam clan who lived in the period of the early Joseon Dynasty. He was the son of King Taejong's (태종) youngest daughter, princess Jeongseon (정선공주). General Nami was excellent at martial arts and was favored by king Sejo (세조). His numerous victories in the battles led him to becoming the Minister of War (highest military position during the period of Goryeo and Joseon dynasties) in 1468.
남이(1441년 또는 1443년 - 1468년)는 조선 전기의 의령 남씨 출신의 위대한 지휘관입니다. 그는 태종의 막내딸 정선공주의 아들이었습니다. 남이 장군은 무예가 뛰어나 세조의 총애를 받았습니다. 그는 전투에서 무수한 승리를 거두어 1468년 병조판서(고려와 조선 시대 최고의 군사 지위)가 되었습니다.
However, in the same year, King Sejo passed away and his son Yejong took the throne. King Yejong (예종) was not fond of Nami and treated him coldly. Knowing that the king doesn’t like Nami, minister Yu Ja-gwang (유자광) who was very jealous of Nami proclaimed that the verse “If a man who already reached his twenties cannot subjugate a country, who will praise him as a prominent person in posterity?" from the poem that Nami once composed in one of his expeditions was a hidden sign that Nami is planning to overthrow the throne. When the king heard about the “planned coup d’état”, he ordered to arrest Nami. He was executed near the Han River.
그러나 같은 해에 세조가 죽고 그의 아들 예종이 왕위에 올랐습니다. 예종은 나미를 좋아하지 않고 냉대했습니다. 왕이 나미를 좋아하지 않는다는 것을 알고, 나미를 질투한 유자광(자子光) 목사는 나미가 한때 그의 원정에서 작곡한 시에서 "이미 20대에 이른 사람이 나라를 복속시킬 수 없다면 누가 후세에 뛰어난 사람으로 칭송하겠는가"라는 구절을 남이가 나미라는 숨은 표시라고 단언했습니다.왕위를 전복시키려 하는군요 왕은 계획된 쿠데타에 대해 듣고 나미를 체포하라고 명령했습니다. 그는 한강 근처에서 처형당했습니다.
General Nami, who is believed to have been killed due to a false accusation despite being a brave general, was deified posthumously and became a famous character of Korean folk tales.
용감한 장군임에도 불구하고 누명으로 살해된 것으로 추정되는 남이 장군이 사후 신격화되면서 한국 민담의 유명한 인물이 되었습니다.
