벚꽃 (Cherry Blossom)
일본어로 사쿠라, 중국어로 잉후아 라고 부르는 꽃. 동아시아에서 봄의 가장 대표적인 꽃 아무래도 벚꽃으로 볼 수 있다. 봄에 화창하게 피는 분홍색, 또는 하얀색 꽃잎이 일반적이다. 개화 시기는 보통 3월 하순~4월 상순이며 기온에 영향을 받는 꽃이라 한국에서 지역마다 벚꽃이 피는 시기가 다르다. 특히 서울 석촌호수, 서울 여의도, 대구 이월드, 창원 진애군항제 이 4개 명소는 예쁜 벚꽃을 즐길 수 있는 곳으로 가장 유명하다.
Known as sakura in Japanese, and yinghua in Mandarin, East Asia’s representative spring flower is undoubtedly the cherry blossom or beot-kkot in Korean. In spring, it commonly blooms brightly with pink or white petals. The flowering period is usually from late March to early April, but as they are affected by temperature, cherry blossoms bloom at different times in different regions of Korea. In particular, Seokchon Lake in Seoul, Yeouido in Seoul, E-World in Daegu, and Jinae-gun Port in Changwon are 4 of the most well-known places where you can enjoy beautiful cherry blossoms in Korea.
개나리 (Forsythia)
전국적으로 매년 3월 중순- 4월 초순에 피어나는 개나리의 학명은 Forsythia Koreana (Rehder) Nakai 이다. 학명에서 알 수 있듯이 개나리는 한국 고유의 토종 식물이며 진달래꽃과 같이 `벚꽃 시기`보다 좀 일찍 피어서 진정한 봄의 시작을 개나리꽃이 피기로 알 수 있다. 개나리의 색깔은 노란색이고 튤립이나 유채와 달리 나무에서 자라는 꽃들에 속한다. 이 꽃을 한국 전체에 퍼져 있어서 어디에서든 볼 수 있는데 응봉산과 서울 올림픽 공원의 개나리가 잘 알려져 있다.
The scientific name of the forsythia, which blooms every mid-March-early April nationwide, is Forsythia Koreana (Rehder) Nakai. As the scientific name indicates, forsythia is a native plant of Korea. It flowers earlier than the cherry blossom season with azalea flowers, indicating that forsythia flowers bloom at the beginning of the spring. The forsythia blooms in yellow and belongs to the tree flower, unlike tulips and rapeseed flowers. This flower is spread throughout Korea, meaning you can see it anywhere, but the famous spot is in Eungbongsan Mountain and Seoul Olympic Park.
매화 (Plum Blossoms)
연한 분홍 빛이 도는 색깔 때문에 벚꽃으로 오해 받기 쉬운 한국의 또 다른 봄꽃이다. 3월 초순에 피는 매화는 위엄과 고귀함의 상징이다. 이 꽃 나무의 가장 인기 있는 부산물 중 하나는 매화수라는 한국의 매화주이다. 매화수는 알코올 도수와 단맛이 낮아 소주에 비해 가벼운 술이라고 생각할 수 있다. 서울과 한국 전역에 퍼져있는 매화 나무를 많이 볼 수 있다. 특히 부산에서당일치기로 다녀올 수 있는 광양시 섬진강마을에서 열리는 광양매화축제는 매화 나무가 가득한 그림같은 절경을 선사하는 국내 최대의 매화축제로 꼽힌다.
This is another spring flower in Korea that is often mistaken for cherry blossoms due to its light pinkish color. Blooming in early March, plum blossoms are a symbol of dignity and nobility. One of the most popular byproducts of the plum blossom tree is the Korean plum liquor, also known as maehwasu. You can think of it as a lighter version of soju due to its lower alcohol content and sweetness. You can find many plum trees spread around Seoul as well as the rest of Korea. In particular, the Gwangyang Maehwa Festival which is celebrated in Gwangyang City’s Seomjingang Village, and can be taken as a day trip from Busan, is said to be the biggest plum blossom festival in South Korea with picture-perfect views of plum trees in full blossom.
